More Information
Women and men (yes, men!) often suffer from depleted hormones or hormonal imbalances. Women frequently require estrogen (a group of related hormones), progesterone, and androgen to aid their physiological development throughout life.
Estrogen enables a girl’s sex organs to grow and develop normally, while also maintaining her secondary sex characteristics. It also protects against bone loss and heart disease.
Progesterone prevents endometrial hyperplasia from occurring as a result of estrogen therapy. Yet, progesterone is needed during pregnancy to maintain the uterine lining, prepare the breasts for lactation, and increase bone mass and density. It also helps the 10% of new mothers who suffer from post partum depression (postnatal illness or PNI).
Androgen enhances the libido of menopausal women, while also lowering cholesterol, increasing calcium retention, and improving energy level and mental alertness. These same benefits apply to men who are going through “andropause.”
Every person is unique, so it is wise for the patient, his/her physician and the pharmacist to collaborate on a customized hormone replacement therapy.
Customized Hormone Replacement Therapy means that the chemical makeup of the replacement hormone is exactly the same as what the body produces. These hormones are almost entirely without the side effects of the synthetic or semisynthetic HRT drugs which do not allow a person to produce the full range of other hormones which are needed for the body to function at full potential.
Options include: Transdermal or transmucosal dosage forms such as gels, troches or suppositories. Non-oral absorption avoids first pass liver metabolism, providing a more reliable extent of absorption which is independent of liver function. Capsules containing micronized particles for enhanced oral absorption. For more information on Customized Hormone Replacement Therapy please feel free to contact us.
