Nutrition
When you hear the word “nutrition” what comes to mind? What you had for lunch? The grocery list on the fridge door? How about the Vitamin D supplement you bought last week or the omega-3 fish oil you also purchased because you just can’t seem to get that cold water fish on the table 2-3 times a week?
All of these things are a part of what go into providing us with the nutrition we need to be healthy. At South River Compounding and Wellness, we help you understand how to eat well for your health, but also how to supplement well for when you don’t or can’t.
Did you know that you can overeat and still be undernourished? Our goal is to help you find good health through nutrition, both with food and supplements.
Screenings
Health Screening Tests
South River offers screening tests to assess the following chronic conditions and health risks:
Saliva Tests
Saliva test kits are designed to measure specific hormone levels for help in determination of imbalances and deficiencies for both women and men. Key hormones include: Estrogens, Progesterone, Testosterone, DHEA-S, and Cortisol for adrenal function. Saliva testing measures the bio-available, active hormone levels, is painless, private and allows for monitoring of the effectiveness of topical hormones.
Saliva test kits are also offered to assess pituitary stimulation and thyroid function.
Hair Analysis
Hair tissue mineral analysis is a test that measures the mineral content of the hair. Continuing research show that many health conditions, including artheriosclerosis, hypercholesterolemia, and hypertension, can be contributed to or aggravated by various mineral imbalances and toxic metal excesses. Hair tissue mineral analysis is a screening tool that can be applied in any phase of therapy and any area of the health care field. HTMA can help pinpoint metabolic disturbances as well as indicate the appropriate corrective clinical approach. The sampled hair is prepared in a licensed clinical laboratory through a series of chemical and high temperature digestive procedures. Testing is then performed using highly sophisticated detection equipment and methods to achieve the most accurate and precise results.
Stool Analysis
Stool analysis provides information on a patient’s ability to digest, metabolize and absorb nutrients as well as reports on bacterial flora, yeasts, and intestinal parasites. It also provides indices and markers of intestinal immune function, inflammation and gut physiology. The Comprehensive Stool Analysis with Parasitology (CSAP) provides specific information about: digestion and absorption of nutrients, elimination efficiency, levels of healthy bacterial flora versus presence of pathogenic bacterial species, yeasts and parasites, infectious pathogens and indices and markers for intestinal immune function, inflammation, and gut physiology. The CSAP is indicated for patients with: Irritable Bowel Syndrome, undesirable changes in bowel movements, signs of malabsorption, Inflammatory bowel disease, ulcers, blood or mucous in stools and parasites in stool. The CSAP is also indicated for patients with illness or symptoms that could be linked to gastrointestinal performance problems such as: food allergies or intolerances, auto-immune illnesses, chronic infection, fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue, eczema, ADD and ADHD, anxiety, depression, arthritis, asthma and allergies, menopause and PMS, fungal infections, poor regulation of diabetes, glucose intolerance, hypoglycemia, cancer risk and anemia or vitamin and mineral deficiencies.
Cholesterol & Glucose
Using the cholestech machine this screening gives a breakdown of High Density Lipoproteins (HDL’s), Low Density Lipoproteins (LDL’s), triglyceride and glucose levels. HDL’s are packages which travel through the bloodstream containing small amounts of cholesterol and are considered “good” cholesterol because they carry cholesterol back to the liver to be removed from the body. LDL’s are packages which travel through the bloodstream containing the largest amount of cholesterol and are considered “bad” cholesterol because they deposit cholesterol in artery walls. Triglycerides are the fat carried through the bloodstream and changed to energy. Excess triglycerides become stored as body fat. It is important for your healthcare professional to have this information to determine your risk for heart disease. Cost of screening: $35
Urine Testing
SRCP offers urine analysis test kits for assessing neurotransmitter levels. Neurotransmitters are chemicals in the brain that relay signals between nerve cells. They include: serotonin, epinephrine, norepinephrine, dopamine, histamine, phenylethylamine, and gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) and are required in proper levels, for healthy brain function. Neurotransmitter kits cover health issues such as depression, mood swings, sleep disorders, libido, appetite control, and energy levels.
Bone Density Screening
Early detection with a Bone Density Test is imperative for Osteoporosis aid and prevention. At South River Compounding Pharmacy we are working to make the early detection of Osteoporosis practical by offering reasonably priced Bone Density testing to the public. The system we use is a SAHARA Ultrasound Bone Densitometer designed and manufactured by Hologic. The use of this system allows the assessment of bone density in the heel with excellent precision. It is non-invasive, requires no disrobing and produces easily interpreted reports in less than four minutes. Cost of screening: $35
Bio-impedance Analysis (BIA)
Bio-impedance analysis is a method of assessing your body composition, the measurement of body fat in relation to lean body mass. It is an integral part of a health and nutrition assessment. Research has shown that body composition is directly related to health. A normal balance of body fat is associated with good health and longevity. Excess fat in relation to lean body mass, a condition known as altered body composition, can greatly increase your risks for cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and more. BIA helps measure your progress as you work to improve your health. With your BIA results, we can recommend a personalized dietary plan, nutritional supplements, and exercise to help you support optimal health and well-being. The procedure is quick, painless and accurate and uses a sophisticated computer to analyze measurements made by an imperceptible electrical current that passes from hand to foot.
$50 for Initial Screening, $35 for Follow-up Screenings or with Personal Consultation.
Allergy Testing
The ELISA/ACT LRA tests specialize in detecting delayed responses to allergens. It can take from two hours to three weeks after being exposed to an allergen for the body to show signs of a weakened immune system. By focusing on identifying causes of chronic conditions and repairing and strengthening the immune system, the ELISA/ACT LRA tests are able to measure delayed allergic reactions to over 400 different items.
Lung Function
Spirometry measures how much and how quickly air can be expelled from the lungs following a deep breath. It is performed by having the patient breathe out forcefully into a device called a spirometer. The SP-10 machine makes a tracing of the rate at which the air leaves the lung. Diseases of airflow obstruction and of lung stiffening give characteristic tracings with spirometry. Cost of screening: $20
Insurance
The majority of compounded prescriptions filled here at South River are eligible for insurance reimbursement. Our patients can, in many cases, pay only their co-pay on compounded prescriptions. We now file claims online with the following insurance carriers: Express Scripts, Anthem, Anthem Healthkeepers, TriCare, Caremark, Federal Employees, Aetna, and PCS/FEP. For insurances not filed online, the patient pays the full price for their prescription and we file a paper claim with their company on their behalf.
