Insurance
The majority of compounded prescriptions filled here at South River are eligible for insurance reimbursement. Our patients can, in many cases, pay only their co-pay on compounded prescriptions. We now file claims online with the following insurance carriers: Express Scripts, Anthem, Anthem Healthkeepers, TriCare, Caremark, Federal Employees, Aetna, and PCS/FEP. For insurances not filed online, the patient pays the full price for their prescription and we file a paper claim with their company on their behalf.

Working With Your Doctor
Many doctors, nurse practitioners, and other health practitioners, recommend BHRT for their patients. At South River, we work with hundreds of practitioners throughout Central Virginia and beyond.
Our Consulting Pharmacists work with you and your doctor to develop the best course of action for you, as an individual. We can evaluate your recent lab results and health status and recommend a prescription to your practitioner for their approval. And, of course, we can fill your doctor’s prescription for compounded medicines.
In the field of pharmacy, compounding (performed in compounding pharmacies) is preparation of a custom formulation of a medication to fit the unique need of a patient which cannot be met with commercially available products. This may be done for medical reasons, such as to be administered by a different route (ex: tablet to liquid), to avoid a non-active ingredient the patient is allergic to, or to provide an exact dose that isn’t commercially available. Medically necessary compounding is referred to as “traditional” compounding. Compounding may also be done for optional reasons, such as preference of flavor or texture, or dietary restrictions.
