Insurance

The majority of compounded prescriptions filled here at South River are eligible for insurance reimbursement. Our patients can, in many cases, pay only their co-pay on compounded prescriptions. We now file claims online with the following insurance carriers: Express Scripts, Anthem, Anthem Healthkeepers, TriCare, Caremark, Federal Employees, Aetna, and PCS/FEP. For insurances not filed online, the patient pays the full price for their prescription and we file a paper claim with their company on their behalf.

Specialty Areas

Treatment for Autism
Families find that a personalized form of treatment, including compounded medicines, can be of great benefit to a patient with autism. Nutritional supplements and biomedical treatments are effective in treating common ailments that children with autism may experience. These may be administered in the form of a gel that is easily absorbed by the skin.

Pain Management
Many people have chronic pain, yet its successful treatment is often less than optimal. Our staff at South River has the expertise to help with pain management in a number of ways, including selection of the most appropriate analgesic agent for the patient, its dosage, and customized dosage form.

Veterinary Medicine Compounding
South River can custom compound multiple medicines into one dose, or provide it in a different form for ease of delivery. We can prepare your pet’s medication in a flavor and form they’ll love. The result is less frustration for you and your pet, and assurance that your pet is receiving the full dose.

Working With Your Doctor

Many doctors, nurse practitioners, and other health practitioners, recommend BHRT for their patients.  At South River, we work with hundreds of practitioners throughout Central Virginia and beyond.

Our Consulting Pharmacists work with you and your doctor to develop the best course of treatment for you, as an individual.  We can evaluate your recent lab results and health status and recommend a prescription to your practitioner for their approval.  And, of course, we can fill your doctor’s prescription for compounded medicines.

In the field of pharmacy, compounding (performed in compounding pharmacies) is preparation of a custom formulation of a medication to fit the unique need of a patient which cannot be met with commercially available products. This may be done for medical reasons, such as to be administered by a different route (ex: tablet to liquid), to avoid a non-active ingredient the patient is allergic to, or to provide an exact dose that isn’t commercially available. Medically necessary compounding is referred to as “traditional” compounding. Compounding may also be done for optional reasons, such as preference of flavor or texture, or dietary restrictions.

Practitioners

Your Compounding Pharmacy Partner

Our goal is to become an extension of your office and a tool for you to help your patients within the triad relationship of physician-patient-pharmacist. South River welcomes any and all inquiries from doctors and veterinarians regarding customization of medications for their patients’ special needs.

We work with you to find the best solution for your patient. Have a patient unable to take a medication orally?
Consider a transdermal gel.
Or maybe an elderly patient or a child unable to swallow a tablet?
Consider an appealing flavored liquid instead.
And if you want to make it easy to administer a medication to a pet, consider having us compound it into a form and flavor they won’t be able to resist!

With our professional staff of pharmacists, technicians, and nutritional consultants onsite, we are able to answer any questions you or your patients may have and provide disease management, medication management, and nutritional & wellness counseling.

We offer scheduled, personal one-on-one consultations and a wonderful selection of pharmaceutical quality nutritional and herbal supplements. If we don’t currently stock what your patients are looking for, we’ll do our best to locate special orders.

We would love to offer seminars, screenings, and in-service training for you and your staff at your office. Sign up for our monthly newsletter and we’ll help you stay informed of the latest compounding options and resources available.

I was home with Shingles....in pain. I called the pharmacy and she discussed all of the products with me. I purchased them over the phone and then had a friend pick them up for me! They were so nice and helpful!!

With the growth of mail order and chain pharmacies this is one of the few places where you really can find someone to discuss your needs. AND, for no reason, this location has a United States Postal Service substation, that is staffed by the SRC Pharmacy folks. No long lines (the most I've ever encountered is one person ahead of me) like most post offices but you can send Certified mail, packages, buy stamps, just like in the grown up post offices.

Great customer service. Everyone was sweet over the phone, they had the veterinary medications I needed on hand, and were able to get the prescription together quickly. Spent most of the previous day trying other pharmacies with no luck and met with very rude personnel - I was very relieved when I found this one!
